Former Minister of Finance and World Trade Organization (WTO) DG in equity, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been named Forbes Africa Person of the Year 2020.
In a short statement, Okonjo-Iweala noted, “Thrilled to be named Forbes Africa-CNBC ‘2020 African of the Year’ following in the footsteps of my great brothers Paul Kagame and Akin Adesina.
“This award is for fellow Africans suffering the health and economic impact of #Covid19. The energy and resilience of Africans inspire me!
Dr Ngozi becomes the second Nigerian to win the award in a space of one year, and the first Nigerian woman to do so.
Akinwumi Adesina, her former ministerial colleague and the current African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina was named winner of the award in 2019.
The AfDB President has won the award twice.
