According to ABC News, What would have resulted to another major fire outbreak was averted today, Saturday, 30th January, 2021, at Stanel World, along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway, Awka by men of the Anambra Fire Service.
Sources stated that the fire which started about 11am was caused by bush burning activity in an undeveloped situated near Stanel World.
Residents of the area had raised alarm over the incident on the social media thereby alerting the Fire Service.
When ABS arrived Stanel World, business was going on as usual without panic while men of the fire Service were at the empty land fighting off the fire.
The acting Manager, Stanel World, Mr. Chris Oragi said they were fire ready as they have sophisticated fire fighting gadgets.
He however criticized the activity of some bloggers who exaggerate stories just to attract traffic to their pages or cause mischief and called on them to always verify information before sending out to the public in order not to cause panic.
Addressing journalists, Mr. Paul Onuorah and Bitrus Auta who are staff of Stanel world said that the company tries it’s best to clear up the undeveloped property which they share boundary with but expressed surprise when they noticed burning flames at the area, and then alerted the fire Service.
The Chief Fire Officer Engineer Martin Agbili recalled how he received a distress call of an ongoing fire incident which his men promptly rushed to the area and was successfully curtailed.
He called on religious bodies, organizations and residents to always ensure twenty feet clearing of bushes from the building as it is the peak of harmattan, and to always call the fire Service numbers for prompt response in case of any fire incident.
